OK, so I took advantage of VSL's 3-for-the-price-of-2 download offer earlier this summer and after purchasing the flugelhorn and the Eb clarinet, I selected my beloved euphonium as my freebie download instrument. It is VERY interesting to compare VSL's euphonium with Garritan's euphonium, which to me sounds more like a baritone horn, but I digress. My question is: how do you all typically add vibrato to VSL sustain patches that are non-vibrato? There is no vibrato patch in either the Standard or Extended libraries for the euphonium, which I assume is deliberate since vibrato is such a personal and widely varying element of expressive wind instrument performance practice. Since CC#1 (modulation) is out because it's used to select rows in the instrument's matrix, do you assign the pitch wheel to another controller number and create staff expressions with that CC # inside Finale, and then drop them into your playback score as needed?
I know that the General MIDI extension that was ratified a few years ago assigned controller numbers to Vibrato Speed, Vibrato Depth, etc. I don't have the Aria player in front of me but I recall seeing those used for Garritan JABB 3 instruments. Has anyone tried them with VSL download instruments?
