Hi folks, VSL has released another maintenance update to the Vienna Instruments player. The current version is 5.3.13166 and is dated 2014-04-03 (this version is really just a Mac OS patch/bug fix for version 5.3.13165 released on 2014-04-01, so if you use Windows, you're current if you have 5.3.13165). You can download it from the User Area at vsl.co.at (after first logging in to your account) at this URL: www.vsl.co.at/en/68/428/514/210.htm. As usual, it's bundled with the most recent version of Vienna Ensemble (which is now at version 5) and downloading the file will install both VI and VE.
The most important, and most dramatic, change is the ability to plug in optional MIRx Reverb Extensions. From the VSL website:
If you haven't upgraded your VI/VE since last summer or earlier, you'll want to download the new VI manual as well, which has also been updated to cover the new reverb situation. The interface has been changed a bit and the reverb section is quite different, and more robust. There's now a choice between algorithmic reverb and the optional MIR extensions (which you have to pay for, of course). See graphic attached.

The most important, and most dramatic, change is the ability to plug in optional MIRx Reverb Extensions. From the VSL website:
Last year, we released the MIRx Convolution Reverb Extensions, providing an easy and affordable way to experience the power of our innovative Vienna MIR PRO mixing solution directly in Vienna Instruments PRO. Now, we’ve gone one step further and updated our free Vienna Instruments player to run the MIRx Extensions as well! The MIRx Reverb Mixing Extensions integrate the stunning acoustics of splendid concert halls and sound stages directly into the Vienna Instruments and Vienna Instruments PRO players. Based on revolutionary MIR (Multi Impulse Response) convolution technology, MIRx provides the same sonic quality as our highly acclaimed Vienna MIR PRO and its RoomPacks. Each MIRx venue comes with hundreds of instrument profiles and placements that guarantee a perfectly balanced orchestral sound every time.
